Helping Grandma and a Visit to the ER

Christopher and his cousin Riley thought that they would be helpful at Grandma's house by cleaning things up. As it was almost dinner time they decided to start in the kitchen. Christopher decided that the knives above the sink looked like they needed a good cleaning so that is where he began his service. He quickly learned that knives are not the safest things to clean.
The two kids came charging into the office announcing that Christopher was bleeding and needed some help. After a quick assesment it was decided that we would indeed need to make a trip to the local emergency room. This announcement sent Christopher into hysterics and myself into panic mode as we were "out of state" and I wondered how this would work with insurance. Papa was able to calm Christopher by explaining things for him and helping him to know that he did not need to worry. Christopher asked for a blessing to help him be brave.
As we drove to the hospital he was very calm. The staff at the ER were amazed by his composure, and he was so proud of himself that he never cried. He was so brave and a little crazy (I guess that is how he deals with fear and pain). The first tears came when we returned to Illinois and he thought he had left his hospital prizes (ball and stickers) at Grandma's house. He is recovering nicely and has four lovely stitches on his right index finger. He loves that the splint makes it look like he has a finger gun. Oh the joy of little boys!
